Desiree Bleam began Bear Necessities in 1995.Beginning with a simple outfit, consisting of a red, white and blue dress depicting a girl, and a pant and shirt set for the boy, Bear Necessities has grown to over 300 different outfits ranging from carpenters and bumblebees, to specific school colors for football players and cheerleaders.Each outfit is an original design, some taking as many as 20 hours to create.Careful attention is given to details such as sleeves and ruffles on a dress, to pin striping and variegated color placement on a baseball uniform.Over the past 14 years, she has participated in many local art and craft festivals.In October 2004, a handmade only craft shop,appropriately named Bear Necessities, opened at our home on Stump Road in Plumstead Township.
